PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To cut out a desired area from a picture obtained by a digital camera independently of the type of a principal subject and the position in the picture. SOLUTION: Image data S0 obtained by a digital camera 10 are read by a read means 21, and principal subject position information M which is given to the image data S0 as tag information and indicates the position of the principal subject in the image data S0 is acquired by an information acquisition means 22. An area R0 including the principal subject is set in the image data S0 on the basis of the principal subject position information M by an area setting means 23, and the are R0 is cut out of the image data S0 by a cut-out means 24. The area R0 is subjected to picture processing by a picture processing means 30, and a processed area picture R1 is synthesized with a template T to obtain a synthetic picture G.
