PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a substrate for a display device or an electronic device capable of preventing peeling off of a membrane and a crack and having high water sealing property to provide an organic electroluminescent display device having a long service life. SOLUTION: This substrate is provided with two layers or more of membrane containing metallic oxide, metallic acid nitride or metallic nitride having different carbon contents on at least either of base materials.
