According to the invention, a distance-force characteristic is determined for the roller pair (14, 16). In order to achieve a desired pressing force of the rollers (14, 16) against each other when the device is operating, a corresponding set value of axial distance (e) is determined from the distance-force characteristic and regulated in the roller pair (14, 16).
