<p>The heart-lung machine is a self contained unit (2), which contains a reservoir (6) connected to a patient's vein (1). The reservoir is connected to a blood pump (8), oxygenator (9), arterial filter (15) and arterial channel (18). A separate, self-sufficient, module coupled to the unit contains drive and control system components. The two modules can be stacked and connected together to form a single unit.</p> |
