A gas-tight building has a fire extinguishing system which discharges an inert gas e.g. carbon dioxide at high rate from a container (2) through a tube (4) to the fire-threatened space. The discharge tube (4) esp. is linked to a branch pipe (6) with a pressure-operated flap discharging to the ambient air.
