Arrangement for determination of the characteristics of a sheet stack (1) or sheet (5) of the stack comprises an optical measurement system (3), such as a camera, and an image processing unit. The camera is positioned so that it can detect first and second edges of the sheet stack at the same time. The invention also relates to a corresponding method in which the detected stack parameters are used to trigger a correction process and or to inform a machine operator.
