The system has three wires. The first wire (1) is connected to the positive terminal of the battery and is at a positive voltage of approximately 12 V above the negative terminal. When the lights are on continuously the voltage (Ust) of the second wire (2) is +12 V. The third wire (3) has a voltage (Ub) which may vary between +12 V and 0 V as the indicator lamp blinks. The circuit has a transistor (T1) with its base (B) connected to the second wire via a resistor (R1). The collector (C) is connected to the first line and the emitter (E) is connected to a set of resistors (R2-5) and two diodes (D1,2), with a connection to a fourth line (4).
