Method in which a first channel is used to monitor the actual deformation process, with a deformation parameter compared with a tolerance value and a warning generated if the parameter is exceeded. A second channel is used to compare measured parameters from the current deformation process with stored and processed values from a number of previous deformation process. Again if a tolerance limit is exceeded a warning is generated. The second tolerance limits are much narrower than the first tolerance limits.
