An apparatus of recognizing a driver using face and footprint sound patterns according to an embodiment of the present invention comprises: a camera unit which takes an image of a face of a driver from outside a vehicle; a microphone which receives footprint sound of the driver from outside the vehicle and converts the sound to an electric signal; a face recognition ratio calculating unit which compares the face of the driver taken by the camera unit with a prestored face, and calculates a face recognition ratio; an electric signal analyzing unit which analyzes the electrical signal obtained in the microphone to obtain characteristics of the electric signal; and a footprint sound recognition ratio calculating unit which compares the analyzed characteristics of the electric signal with prestored characteristic values, and calculates a footprint sound recognition ratio. The apparatus of recognizing a driver further comprises: an illuminance measuring unit which is attached to a vehicle and measures the illuminance around the vehicle; a weight determining unit which determines a face recognition ratio weight and a footprint sound recognition ratio weight according to the illuminance measured by the illuminance measuring unit; a driver probability calculating unit which calculates the probability that a recognized object is a driver by using the face recognition ratio weight, the footprint sound recognition ratio weight, the face recognition ratio, and the footprint sound recognition ratio; and a driver determining unit which determines whether the recognized object is a driver by using the calculated probability. According to the present invention, it is possible to recognize a driver even when the driver is outside a vehicle by recognizing a face of the driver outside the vehicle using a camera installed on a side mirror. |
