The axis (7) of the drive shaft (5) lies at 90 degrees to that of the driven shaft (23). The two shafts are held in bearings (35) in an L-shaped frame (3). A flywheel (9,11) at the end of the drive shaft has a groove which is straight in end view, accommodating a slider on the end of a Y-shaped crank (15). The two forks of the Y-shape swivel on a transverse pin through the driven shaft. As the drive shaft and flywheel rotate, the slider moves along the length of the groove, and the Y-crank oscillates and imparts a rotary rocking motion to the driven shaft. A piston-cylinder arrangement (25) is mounted on the driven shaft.
