<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent irregularity of display, etc., by securing uniformity of cells in a peripheral breaking part and an image display part inside it. <P>SOLUTION: A first light shielding area that regulates a display area is arranged on a light transmission substrate, a cell thickness adjustment layer is provided on the substrate and a second light shielding area that regulates boundaries of a plurality of pixel areas is arranged on the cell thickness adjustment layer in the display area. The thickness of the cell thickness adjustment layer is determined so that thickness of the whole of the second light shielding area does not become less than thickness of the whole of the first light shielding area. Since the second light shielding area such as a black matrix is extremely thin in comparison with the first light shielding area such as the peripheral breaking parts, it is difficult to form the respective layers as thickness as designed values in the case of laminating a plurality of layers and the layer thickness of the second light shielding area tends to become thinner. Gaps of cells are uniformized over the entire display area and the irregularity of display, etc., can be prevented by raising the bottoms of the respective layers of the second light shielding area by providing the cell thickness adjustment layer and making the entire thickness as approximately equal to the thickness of the whole of the first light shielding area. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
