PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an absolute rudder angle sensor capable of detecting the number of revolutions per unit time without using any variable resistor detecting an absolute rudder angle of a steering wheel operated slightly after an ignition switch is turned on. SOLUTION: This rudder angle sensor 21 detecting a rotation angle of a rotary shaft 23 turning at a limited rotational speed is provided with a tape 21, which is provided with a center part stretched in a part of the outer circumference of the rotary shaft 23, fed to move from one end side or the other side synchronously with the rotation of the rotary shaft 23 turning in one direction or the other direction, and provided with a plurality of positional information imparting means, and an information detection means 29 arranged face to face to the tape 27 for detecting information about the positional information imparting means from the moving tape 27.
