PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inhibit the occurrence of meandering and heat buckling in metal strips continuously conveyed through a heating furnace. SOLUTION: Upon performing continuous annealing of steel strips by conveying them with multiple conveying rollers positioned inside a continuous annealing furnace, the plate temperature Ts of the steel strip at the position of each conveying roller is estimated from heat transfer calculation based on the furnace temperature, and the furnace temperature distribution and the line speed are adjusted (changed) so that the actual roller crown TA at operation obtained by use of the plate temperature Ts becomes substantially≥0 for any of the conveying rollers and that the plate temperature Ts of the steel strip at the position of each conveying roller is maintained below the critical temperature index TB which represents the occurrence limit of heat bucking.
