PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical element having optical elements integrally formed into one body by an adhesive, which has parallelism of the optical elements and the optical available area improved. SOLUTION: With respect to the optical element having a first optical element (a second polarizer 16) and a second optical element (a Farady rotator 15) integrally formed into one body by the adhesive, a groove or a protrusion which is formed on the principal surface of the second polarizer along the outer edge of the Farady rotator 15 and has prescribed width and depth or height is provided in the adhesion position of the Farady rotator 15. Consequently, exudation of the adhesive caused by a capillary phenomenon can be controlled by the groove or the protrusion formed on the principal surface of the first optical element.
