A modular electrical connector system is provided for a mobile phone (12) which includes a lower housing (14) disposed beneath a printed circuit board (16) having a plurality of circuit traces (18) on a bottom side (16a) thereof. The housing includes at least one cavity (21,22,23) in an upper side (14a) thereof opposite the bottom side of the printed circuit board. A connector module (28,30,32) is positionable in the cavity and includes a frame (28a,30a,32a) having at least one connector (34-48) thereon. The connector has at least one flexible contact (50) for surface-engaging a respective circuit trace on the bottom side of the printed circuit board. A complementary interengaging mounting structure (24,25,26) is provided between the frame of the connector module and the lower phone housing to releasably mount the module in the cavity. Thereby the module easily can be selectively removed from the housing for repair or replacement purposes. |
