PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the traveling direction of a vehicle from being deviated from a driver's intended direction by allowing a driver to recognize the state of a road surface, in a steering device of the vehicle capable of changing the steering characteristics of the vehicle by the control of an actuator. SOLUTION: The movement of the steering actuator 2 is transmitted to wheels 4 for causing variation in steer angle. The steering actuator 2 is controlled so that a deviation between a target steer amount and a detected steer amount can be reduced and the ratio of the steering amount of the wheels 4 to the operating amount of an operating member can be varied. A target operating reaction acting on the operating member 1 in a neutral position returning direction corresponds to the sum of a first reaction component and a second reaction component. The first reaction component is in proportion to the deviation between the target steer amount of the wheels 4 correlated to the detected operating amount of the operating member 1 and the detected steer amount of the wheels, and increases and decreases according to an increase and decrease in the detected vehicle speed. The second reaction component is in proportion to the variation rate of the deviation, and controls the operating actuator 19 so as to produce the target operating reaction. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
