PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a protecting device S for an occupant of a convertible type automobile C. SOLUTION: A structure unit E having a molded article made of fiber complex plastic material is disposed on the rear side of a lateral partition wall W of a car body. Two extendable upsetting bars U are positioned between a module beam M extending laterally to the longitudinal direction of the vehicle and the lateral partition wall W. The module beam M is further directly supported on a car body bottom B via at least one force transmitting part T. The protecting device can be lightened while keeping the same and high safe reference with respect to an upsetting accident comparing with a conventional protecting device. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
