A surgical device Ä710Ü is described. The device comprises tissue engaging means Ä716Ü that includes first and second opposed jaws Ä746, 748Ü for grasping, securing, and occluding body tissues and conduits. A shaft member Ä714Ü is operatively coupled to the tissue engaging means and is constructed of a malleable material allowing it to be placed in different curvatures. A handle assembly Ä712Ü is operatively coupled to the shaft member and to the tissue engaging means. The device further comprises jaw actuating means Ä731Ü for moving the jaws of the tissue engaging means between open and closed positions. The jaw actuating means Ä731Ü extends axially through the shaft member and is provided with coupling means Ä720, 722Ü at each end which enable the jaw actuating means and the shaft member to be separated from the remainder of the device for disposal. The tissue engaging means is provided with a socket Ä724Ü and the jaw actuating means is couplable with that socket.
