<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To speedily cope with the desired operation of a user which can be carried out independently of recording operation in a recording preparing period until a fixing roller reaches a prescribed temperature and to minimize the delay of the recording preparing period because of this. <P>SOLUTION: In the copying machine, a compound machine and method for controlling them; this copying machine comprises: the fixing roller for fixing a toner image on a paper; a first electrical heat source for heating the fixing roller; and a second electrical heat source for support the heat source. In the recording preparing period since starting until the surface of the fixing roller reaches the prescribed temperature, power is supplied to the first and second electrical heat sources. When the surface reaches the prescribed temperature, power supply to the second electrical heat source is stopped. When it is determined that operation on the basis of operation by a user corresponds to a prescribed operation even during the recording preparing period, power supply to the second heat source is stopped and operation on the basis of the operation by the user is carried out.
