Preparation of optical films, containing polyolefin comprises the steps of: casting a solution of polyolefin onto a base in an organic solvent, e.g. methylene chloride; and evaporation of the solvent. A method for the preparation of optical films from polyolefins of formula (I): X = a polar group; and n = 10-1000 contains a polar group. The process of preparing the films, comprises the steps of: (i) dissolution of the polyolefin in methylene chloride; (ii) casting the solution in, at least 1 vol.% of methylene chloride vapor containing atmosphere, at a temperature not below 35 degrees C, onto a smooth base in a laminar gas stream; and (iii) withdrawing the film from the base and drying of the film at 70-120 degrees C without stretching the film. |
