PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a master cylinder capable of securing a liquid channel cross-sectional area of a port while reducing cost by reducing the processing man-hour. SOLUTION: This master cylinder comprises a bottomed cylinder member 15 and a piston inserted into the cylinder member 15 for forming a pressure chamber in the cylinder member 15. The cylinder member 15 is provided with ports 33, 47 for communicating the pressure chamber and a reservoir, and the ports 33, 47 are formed in casting the cylinder member 15, whereby the boring work for making the ports 33, 47 becomes unnecessary, and the slot-shaped ports 33, 47 can be formed.
