PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a functional polycarbosilane having excellent durability and light emitting characteristic, a pole transport characteristic or electric characteristic, and also chemical characteristics such as good reactivity. SOLUTION: This polycarbosilane having functional groups is represented by general formula (I): [-SiR<SP>1</SP>(-R<SP>4</SP>-R<SP>3</SP>)-R<SP>5</SP>-R<SP>2</SP>-R<SP>6</SP>-]<SB>p</SB>[-SiR<SP>1</SP>H-R<SP>5</SP>-R<SP>2</SP>-R<SP>6</SP>-]<SB>q</SB>(wherein R<SP>1</SP>is a group selected from the group consisting of an alkyl group, aryl group, aralkyl group, alkenyl group, and heterocyclic group which may be substituted, R<SP>2</SP>is a group selected from the group consisting of an alkylene group, arylene group, and divalent heterocyclic group which may be substituted, R<SP>3</SP>is a group selected from the group consisting of an aminoalkyl group, aminoaryl group, and ferrocenyl group, R<SP>4</SP>, R<SP>5</SP>, and R<SP>6</SP>have each independently an ethylenic double bond and they are the same as or different from each other, p is an integer of 1 or greater, q is an integer of 0 or positive, and p+q=2-50,000).
