PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a rubber composition, especially a rubber composition for tires, which uses a specific softener having a PCA content of≤3% and imparts an excellent breaking strength and a low heat build-up which are equivalent to or superior to those of rubber compositions prepared using high-aromatic oils. SOLUTION: The rubber composition is prepared by compounding the softener containing a hydrogenated naphthene oil wherein the amount of dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) extract measured by IP346 method is controlled to <3 wt.%.
