PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stabilize the surface of the image carrier of a photoreceptor for an electrophotographic image forming apparatus for a long period without causing filming by refreshing the surface of the image carrier. SOLUTION: A brush having pile yarns containing polishing powder implanted thereon is arranged in rubbing contact with the image carrier of the electrophotographic image forming apparatus as a cleaning brush or a charging brush 4, etc., to polish the surface of the image carrier.
