<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display which has an optical compensation function for compensating residual retardation of the liquid crystal display. <P>SOLUTION: As the optical compensation function is imparted to an alignment film, the lowering of contrast due to the residual retardation of the liquid crystal molecules which unsatisfactorily stand up on the boundary of the alignment film or in the bulk when a voltage is applied can be compensated without lowering transmissivity (brightness) and, thereby, the high contrast can be obtained. Also, a retardation film is made unnecessary and the attaching process is cut. Therefore, the liquid crystal display having high reliability can be produced by an easy and low-cost production process. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
