PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rice grain grade determination method and its device for determining accurately a cracked rice kernel, even if crack is generated on either side of the front and the back of a rice grain. SOLUTION: In this rice grain grade determination method, inspection is performed from both sides of the rice grain by a first optical detection means 9 and a second optical detection means 10, to thereby determine not only rice kernel cracking but also the cracked state. As the method for inspection/ determination, transmitted light of oblique light irradiated onto one side in the thickness direction of the transferred rice grain and transmitted light of the oblique light irradiated onto the other side in the thickness direction of the rice grain are received, and the cracked rice kernel is determined based on both transmitted light data from one side and the other side. The cracked state generated in the rice grain is determined based on the transmitted light, and the cracked rice kernel is determined based on the cracked state. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
