PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aqueous coating composition for a can interior which can form a coating film having a good curability, is excellent in taste retention, and from which does not bleed out bisphenol A. SOLUTION: This aqueous coating composition is prepared by mixing a carboxyl group-containing acrylic resin (A) having an acid value of 30-100 mgKOH/g with a m-cresol-derived resol phenol resin (B) obtained by reacting m-cresol with formaldehyde or the like in the presence of a basic catalyst in a solid content ratio by weight of resin A/resin B of (98/2)-(70/30) and dispersing the resultant mixture in an aqueous medium.
