PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce heat energy consumption by speedily transmitting the heat of a high temperature portion, that is generated and accumulated at the ends of a fixing member being a non-paper-passing portion to a low temperature portion, thereby making uniform temperature in the axial direction of the fixing member. SOLUTION: The fixing device has a heat source inside or outside the fixing member formed from a hollow rotary body and a pressure member which is in pressure contact with the fixing member, and passes a transfer material with an unfixed toner thereon between the fixing member and the pressure member, thereby fusing the toner to the transfer material. In the fixing device, a roller member having a graphite layer on its periphery is brought into contact with the periphery of the fixing member formed from the hollow rotary body or the periphery of the pressure member.
