PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize an effective base-isolating construction method using an existing building on a mat foundation as a target. SOLUTION: In the base-isolating construction method using the existing building on the mat foundation as the target, the lower ground of the mat foundation 2 is excavated by an operation from the periphery or inside of the existing building 1, and working spaces are ensured at places just under at least existing columns 4 and pile bodies 6 by a Chicago (board) method are constructed in the working spaces. In the base-isolating construction method, supports are interposed among each pile body and the mat foundation, and column load is borne temporarily by the pile bodies through these supports. The lower section of the existing building is further excavated under the state and a base-isolation bit 8 is formed while a batholith 9 is constructed anew on the base of the bit, and seismic isolators 10 bearing the existing building in a base isolation manner are interposed between the batholith and the mat foundation and the supports are removed.
