PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for purifying pentacyclopentadecanedimethanol with which a distillation apparatus comprises a specific metal material used in a liquid contact part. SOLUTION: The method for purifying the pentacyclopentadecanedimethanol comprises purifying the pentacyclopentadecanedimethanol by vacuum distillation. In the method, the metal material having≤85 wt.% iron content (e.g. austenitic stainless steel, copper and a copper alloy, nickel, a nickel-molybdenum-iron- chromium alloy, an aluminum alloy, zinc, chromium, titanium and a titanium alloy, zirconium and a zirconium alloy) is used in the liquid contact part.
