PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an aqueous adhesive which has excellent initial adhesiveness for preventing curling in hot-press bonding of resin-impregnated paper and exhibits high heat resistance and water resistance immediately after hot pressing. SOLUTION: The aqueous adhesive composition is obtained by mixing a main agent emulsion (A) which is adjusted to pH 2.5-3.5 by blending a polymer emulsion containing a polyvinyl alcohol and a vinyl acetate-based polymer containing a methylol group in the molecule with one or more kinds of acidic substances selected from the group of an acidic metal salt, organic carboxylic acid, organic sulfonic acid, mineral acid and ammonium chloride with 1-40 mass parts of a polyisocyanate compound (B) based on 100 mass part of polymer solid content of the main agent emulsion (A).
