PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an energy recovery type cargo handling machine capable of achieving energy saving in raising and recovering the energy to a battery in lowering. SOLUTION: This energy recovery type cargo handling machine is so constituted that, when it is raised by a joystick controller 21, this machine controls the rotation speed of a cargo handling motor generator 25 and the tilt rotation (rotation control) of a hydraulic pump motor based on a raising speed set by the joystick controller 21 and a loading pressure (load G) detected by a pressure sensor 35. When it is lowered by the joystick controller 21, this machine controls the energy recovery of storing generated power of the cargo handling motor generator 25 in the battery 24, and also controls the rotation speed of the cargo handling motor generator 25 and tilting rotation of the hydraulic pump motor based on the set lowering speed and the loading pressure so as to be to the set lowering speed.
