PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To adhere an optical element to an optical system holding member with a high precision with respect to an attachment structure for the optical element in a focus detector or the like arranged in a camera. SOLUTION: In the attachment structure for the optical element, by which the optical element is attached to the optical system holding member, a recess to which the optical element is to be fitted is formed in the optical system holding member, and a protrusion is formed at a corner part of the recess, and an optical element-side reference surface formed at a corner part of the optical element is brought into contact with a holding member-side reference surface formed in the front end of the protrusion, and the backside of the optical element-side reference surface of the optical element is adhered to a wall surface of the recess.
