PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for making a planographic printing plate from a planographic printing plate precursor having a positive photosensitive layer which satisfies resistance to scumming due to a silicate in a developing bath and scumming due to leached aluminum in a washing bath and a finisher bath, printing resistance and ink receptivity, is excellent in contrast between image and non-image areas and maintains the residual film rate of an image area, therefore ensures a wide range of developing conditions. SOLUTION: In the method for making a planographic printing plate in which a planographic printing plate precursor having on an aluminum support a photosensitive layer containing a water-insoluble and alkali-soluble high molecular compound is imagewise exposed and developed with an aqueous alkali solution containing an alkali metallic silicate, nonreducing sugar and a base, the molar ratio of the alkali metallic silicate to the nonreducing sugar is 10:90 to 90:10.
