PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase average luminance of an image display device by extending the light emitting time per display element. SOLUTION: The period of clock signals CLK3 which are used to synchronize the driving control of an SED panel is made longer than clock signals CLK2 which are synchronized to color burst signals of inputted video signals and is made equal to or less than (vertical synchronization interval/vertical video interval)*(horizontal synchronization interval/horizontal video interval) times. Moreover, driving horizontal synchronization signals VD4 of the panel which are determined based on the signals CLK3 are extended with respect to driving horizontal synchronization signals HD2 of the inputted video signals, the horizontal synchronization interval and the horizontal video interval are extended and the driving time of cold cathode elements is extended.
