PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming method by which uniform image gloss is obtained without relying on a toner laid-on amount on a recording medium, and a sense of incongruity is suppressed between the image gloss and recording- medium gloss. SOLUTION: The gloss value of the recording medium is represented by G<SB>0</SB>, and the toner being laid on the recording medium in a quantity is within the range of 0.05-1.3 mg/cm<SP>2</SP>. When the recording medium with high gloss (G<SB>0</SB>>40) is used (i), the image is formed in a low-speed mode wherein a process speed is from 20 to less than 30 mm/sec, and the maximum value G<SB>max1</SB>and the minimum value G<SB>min1</SB>of the gloss value of the fixed image satisfy the following formulas: G<SB>max1</SB>≤G<SB>0</SB>+40 and G<SB>min1</SB>≥G<SB>0</SB>-25. When the recording medium with low gloss (0≤G<SB>0</SB>≤40) is used (ii), the image is formed in a high-speed mode wherein the process speed is 130-600 mm/sec, and the maximum value G<SB>max2</SB>and the minimum value G<SB>min2</SB>of the gloss value of the fixed image satisfy the following formulas: G<SB>max2</SB>≤G<SB>0</SB>+20 and G<SB>min2</SB>≥G<SB>0</SB>-15.
