PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique for manufacturing a nanosize polyimide fine particle by controlling the particle size and the particle size distribution. SOLUTION: A polymer solution, obtained by dissolving a polyamic acid in a good solvent selected from polar amide solvents in a concentration of 0.1-2 wt.%, is poured into a poor solvent selected among a paraffinic solvent, an aromatic solvent and CS<SB>2</SB>, while controlling the temperature of the poor solvent by pouring the solution from a microsyringe to the poor solvent which is controlled at a temperature of higher than 5°C up to 50°C, preferably 20-40°C and agitated under an agitation condition as vigorous as 1,500±500 rpm, to give a polyamic acid fine particle having an average particle size of 44-400 nm and a particle size dispersion such that when the average particle size is 44 nm, about 80% of the particles fall within±10 nm from the average and that when the average particle size is 400 nm, about 80% of the particles fall within±100 nm from the average. The polyamic acid particle is chemically imidized to give a polyimide fine particle with the particle size dispersion preserved. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
