PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a weight lifting device and a suspending means capable of avoiding an obstacle and adjusting the position of the weight in the horizontal direction. SOLUTION: The weight lifting device using a step rod type jack has a flexible wire part 10 under a suspending rod part 54, so that the weight 56 can be moved in the horizontal direction by utilizing the wire part 10 to be bent in the horizontal direction. Specifically, the length of the suspending rod 54 formed by rod units 52 is made to correspond to the lifting length of the weight 56, and the wire part 10 is disposed in the range other than the length of the suspending rod. A pulley mechanism 22 is disposed above the wire part 10 to draw the wire part 10 sideways so that the weight 56 is moved in the horizontal direction, or a sideways moving means 32 is mounted on the wall surface to directly push the weight 56.
