PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a precipitation hardened Al alloy having excellent mechanical properties, especially excellent toughness. SOLUTION: Of this precipitation hardened Al alloy, the aspect ratio of a eutectic structure present therein is 1.2-2.5 and the equivalent circle diameter, i.e., the diameter of a circle having an equivalent area, of the eutectic structure is 1-2.5μm. Preferably, the alloy contains 6.5-7.5 mass% Si and 0.36 mass% or lower Mg and further preferably contains 20-70 ppm Sr. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
