PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide polylactate-based staple fibers which exhibit a biodegrading property in soil and atmosphere, has excellent bulkiness and dimensional stability after thermally treated, and are suitably used for uses such as filters, cushions, and non-woven fabrics. SOLUTION: The polylactate-based staple fibers are characterized by having a dry heat shrinkage factor of≤3%, preferably≤1%, a crimp percent of≥5%, preferably≥10%, at 140°C and a crimp percent retention of≥50%, preferably≥70%, after thermally treated at 150°C. The polylactate used as a main component for the polylactate-based staple fibers includes poly L-lactate, poly D- lactate, and L-lactate/D-lactate copolymer, and the optical purity of the polylactate is≥95%, preferably≥98%, because a low optical purity lowers the melting point of the polylactate, thereby deteriorating its heat resistance.
