PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus by which cleaning performance is enhanced in a heating roller, and a cleaning tape is efficiently used. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus comprises a fixing means provided with a cleaning mechanism for fixing transfer paper with unfixed toner by holding and carrying it between the heating roller and a pressure roller, and cleaning the front surface of the heating roller with a tape. The apparatus includes: a printing rate calculating means for obtaining a printing rate which is expressed by the rate of a printing area to a non-printing area in a printing region when an image is formed; a tape feeding amount arithmetic means for calculating a tape feeding amount at prescribed fixing and carrying distance of the transfer paper based on the calculated printing rate; a tape feeding means for feeding the tape while bringing it into slidable contact with the front surface of the heating roller; and a control means for controlling the tape feeding amount based on the printing rate.
