<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrooptical device which can achieve both of the thinning of the device and the enhancement of utilization efficiency of light by improving the constitution of an illumination system and to provide an electronic appliance using the same. <P>SOLUTION: In a liquid crystal device 1, a light source 22 is disposed on a position confronted with the side edge surface of a counter substrate 7b, and a light guide body film 4 and an optical reflection layer 41 are located so as to oppose the outer surface side of the counter substrate 7b. In the light guide body film 4, optical path changing slopes 4c are formed in a matrix pattern on the position which avoids light intercepting regions 53b where black matrices 72 are formed and overlaps light transmission regions 53a in a plane where pixel electrodes 66 and color filters 71R, 71G, 71B are opposed to each other. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
