PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the rising time and the falling time of an address voltage pulse to be applied to a plasma display panel which uses a reactive electric power recovery circuit and to reduce the number of switching elements. SOLUTION: In the driving apparatus of the plasma display panel, the terminal voltage of a panel capacitor is changed to a second voltage by shifting the energy of the panel capacitor, which is charged with a first voltage, to an inductor and storing the energy. After the terminal voltage of the panel capacitor is changed to the second voltage, by freewheeling current flowing through the inductor, the terminal voltage of the panel capacitor is maintained at the second voltage. Then, the terminal voltage of the panel capacitor is altered to the first voltage using the energy being stored in the inductor. After the terminal voltage of the panel capacitor is changed to the first voltage, the terminal voltage of the panel capacitor is maintained at the first voltage by connecting the first terminal of the panel capacitor to a first voltage source.
