PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating composition of which the barrier properties against gases, e.g. oxygen or moisture, and the adhesiveness do not deteriorate and which does not contain a compound harmful to the human body. SOLUTION: This gas barrier coating composition contains (a) a butyral resin, (b) at least one compound selected from the group consisting of metal alcoholates represented by R<SP>1</SP><SB>m</SB>M(OR<SP>2</SP>)<SB>n</SB>, hydrolyzates, condensates, and chelate compounds thereof, hydrolyzates and condensates of the chelate compounds, metal acrylates, and hydrolyzates and condensates of the metal acrylates, and (c) water and/or a hydrophilic organic solvent.
