摘要 The transmission comprises a planetary gear system made up of a ring gear, a sun gear and two or more planetary gears, an input/output shaft directly connected to the planetary gear carrier, a high-speed shaft directly connected to the sun gear, a motor/generator with its rotor mounted on the input/output shaft and its stator mounted on the transmission casing, a motor/generator with its rotor mounted on the ring gear and its stator mounted on the transmission casing, and control means whereby the system is arranged to be controlled. When the motor/generator on the ring gear is temporarily acting as a generator, its electrical output is fed directly to the other motor/generator, and vice-versa, their efforts being mutually reinforcing in both cases. The principal application is in support of high-speed flywheels in road vehicles. The energy source can be a battery, a fuel cell or an internal combustion engine. The transmission provides reverse operation, through geared neutral to full forward speed, drawing energy from the flywheel on acceleration, and feeding it energy during regenerative braking. The energy transfer in each direction is normally a combination of purely mechanical through the planetary gear, and electro-mechanical between the two motor/generators. This is considerably more efficient than the conventional multiple transformations from mechanical into electrical and then into chemical for braking, and then the processes in reverse for acceleration. An optional braking device can be fitted to the ring gear, to provide higher levels of power than the motor/generators can achieve in combination.
