PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for operating a hollow fiber membrane module which can maintain a sable filtration performance for a long period. SOLUTION: Raw water is supplied simultaneously from the upper and lower side openings 3a and 3b of the hollow fiber membrane module 2 during filtration. Since a pressure loss in the hollow fiber membrane is reduced, and an inter- membrane pressure in the longitudinal direction becomes constant, the clogging of the membrane is prevented. The module is suitable for the filtration of river water, and the like, which is conducted under a particularly low inter-membrane pressure. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
