The invention relates to a proton-conducting, flexible electrolyte membrane for a fuel cell. Said electrolyte membrane is impermeable to the reactants of a fuel cell reaction and comprises a permeable, flexible, open-worked carrier comprising polymer fibres and a proton-conducting material which can selectively conduct protons through the membrane. The invention also relates to a proton-conducting membrane, a method for the production thereof and the use of the same. The inventive membrane represents a novel category of solid, proton-conducting membranes, the base of said membranes being a porous and flexible carrier comprising polymer fibres, preferably a polymer fleece. Said carrier is infiltrated with a proton-conducting material, the membrane is then dried, and the proton-conducting material solidifies into a gel or a crystalline material, forming an impermeable, proton-conducting membrane. The electrolyte membrane remains flexible and can easily be used as a membrane in a fuel cell. |
