PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recorder employing a capping means capable of preventing dry up of the nozzle opening of a recording head effectively. SOLUTION: An ink absorbing material 25, and a plate member 31 covering the ink absorbing material 25 and facing the nozzle forming face of a recording head under capping state are arranged on the inner bottom part of a capping means 9. Consequently, evaporation of an ink solvent impregnated into the ink absorbing material can be controlled effectively and thereby occurrence of a print trouble can be prevented. An inclining face 33 for preventing ink from standing is formed on the face of the plate member 31 facing a recording head. Consequently, ink being supplied from the recording head permeates to the end part of the ink absorbing material 25 along the inclining face 33 and old ink impregnated into the ink absorbing material can be replaced by new ink.
