PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a heterocyclic (R)- and (S)- cyanohydrin, capable of simply producing the cyanohydrin rich in enantiomers from a corresponding heterocyclic ketone in a high yield with high enantiomeric purity. SOLUTION: This method for producing the heterocyclic (R)- and (S)- cyanohydrin comprises reacting the ketone expressed by formula (2) (R1, R2, R3, and R4 are each H, an alkyl, an aklenyl, or the like; X and Y are each C, N, O, S, or the like; Z is C, N, O, S, or the like; and (n) is 1, 2 or 3) with (R)- and (S)-hydroxynitrile-lyases in the presence of a cyanide group donor in an organic phase, an aqueous phase or a two-phase system thereof, or in an emulsion state, so as to form the heterocyclic (R)- and (S)-cyanohydrin expressed by formula (1).
