<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance security of inheritance information in the processing for inheriting information, e.g. grade identification information, from an old component when the component is replaced. <P>SOLUTION: Assuming a system arrangement of a single printer 10 and a system arrangement of the printer 10 combined with an extension unit, e.g. a scanner 20, exist. In the arrangement where an extension unit exists, inheritance information 100 is copied from the printer 10 to the extension unit and when the control board 22 of the printer 10 or the extension unit is replaced, inheritance information 100 is copied from the not replaced apparatus to the nonvolatile memory 14, 24 or 34 in the replaced apparatus. In case of the system arrangement of a single printer 10, inheritance information 100 in the nonvolatile memory 14 is copied to a maintenance unit 40 before a control board 12 is replaced and written back to a new replaced control board 12. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
